James Watt and the Teakettle (170 words)

In the 18th century, a Scottish boy was sitting in his grandmother’s kitchen. He was watching a teakettle hanging above the fireplace. The water inside was bubbling, and steam was rising from the spout. Soon, the lid began to rattle and shake.
“Grandma, what is in the teakettle? The lid is rattling,” he asked.
“Only water, my child. That is steam coming out from the spout. Hot water makes steam,” she said.
The boy carefully lifted the lid and looked inside. He said, “The steam must be strong enough to lift the iron lid.”
From that day, he thought about steam all the time. As a college student, he decided to study more about steam and its power.
“Steam is amazing,” he said to himself. “If we could control steam, we could use it with machines. How can we do this?”
Later, he tried many experiments. He failed often, but always learned something new. In the end, James Watt was able to give the world the first successful steam engine.

その日から少年はいつも蒸気のことを考えるようになりました。大学生になると、蒸気とその力についてもっと学ぶことを決意しました。
「蒸気は素晴らしい。蒸気をうまくコントロールできたら、機械に使うことができる。どうすればできるだろう？」と呟きました。
その後、彼は多くの実験を試みました。失敗も多かったですが、その度に新しいことを学びました。そしてついに、ジェームズ・ワットは世の中に最初の蒸気機関をもたらすことができました。
