A mother bird was looking for some food in a beautiful forest. Suddenly, she saw a big fire! Smoke and flames were everywhere!
She thought of her baby chicks. So, she flew home as fast as she could. It was difficult to see and breathe through the smoke.
The mother bird finally reached her nest. Since smoke rises, she decided to move her three chicks to the base of a tree. At the bottom, she covered the crying chicks by spreading her wings over them.
The fire was coming closer, but she never left them. Soon after, the fire was above them. The mother bird tried her best but, she died.
A few days after the fire, a park ranger was walking by. He heard some chicks crying. He walked over and saw the dead mother covering the three chicks. They were alive!
The ranger realized that this brave, loving mother bird gave up her life to save her children.

美しい森の中で、母鳥が食べ物を探していました。すると突然、大きな火が目に飛び込んできました。煙と炎があたり一面に広がっていました。
母鳥は自分のヒナのことを想い、全速力で巣まで飛んで帰りました。煙の中では目も見えず、息もできないほどでした。
母鳥はようやく巣にたどり着きました。煙が上がるので、3羽のヒナを木の根元に移動させ、泣いているヒナたちに翼を広げて覆いかぶさりました。
火はどんどん近づいていましたが、母鳥はヒナから離れることはありません。やがて、火はヒナたちの頭上に迫ってきました。母鳥は懸命にこらえましたが、ついに命を落としてしまいました。
火事の数日後、パークレンジャーが通りかかったその時、ヒナの泣き声が聞こえてきました。レンジャーは、死んだ母鳥が3羽のヒナに覆いかぶさっているのを見つけました。ヒナは生きていたのです！
この勇敢で愛情深い母鳥が子供たちを救うために自分の命を投げ出したのだ、とレンジャーは気付きました。
